The memorial plaque was unveiled by family and friends, on the 40th anniversary, in memory of Noel Hawley who was killed while on duty at Rydal Railway Station. The Hotshots Hockey Club; Rail, Transport and Bus Union and Rydal Village Association generously supplying funding and labour for a memorial to be unveiled in his honour. 

Noel Hawley was a young Lithgow railwayman getting on with his job as station assistant on the night shift at the then active Rydal railway station when he was shot dead in a motiveless murder on the 14th September 1973.
