The brass plaque commemorates John Coleridge Patterson Butler (1886 - 1911). The church also contains a window erected to his memory.

On Sunday evening the Rev. Percy Wood, rector of Christ Church, unveiled and dedicated a memorial tablet in the church to the memory of the late Mr. J. C. P. Butler. The tablet, which is of brass, bears the following inscription:— "In loving memory of John Coleridge Patterson Butler, who died August 1, 1911. Erected by his friends. Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord."  It is erected over the seat which the deceased regularly occupied. The choir sang sacred hymns, and the rector made feeling reference to the church life of Mr. Butler.
