A park commemorates Bert Thompson who became the Editor and Proprietor of the Traralgon Journal in 1936, and was an author of a number of books.


In 1983 was awarded an M.B.E for services to Journalism, the welfare of the community and the civic life of Traralgon.

In 1924 Bert Thompson arrived in Traralgon and started working at The Journal.  In 1936 he purchased The Journal and its editor until 1962.  Bert was well known for his participation in lcoal activities and his interest in the betterment of his fellow man.  In 1983 he was awarded an M.B.E. for his services to journalism, the welfare of the community and the civic life of the former city of Traralgon.
