Front Inscription

This cairn was unveiled on 25th January 1986 at the Muckadilla School Centenary to commemorate the passing of this spot by Major Sir Thomas Mitchell Surveyor General of N S W on May 9th 1846.

An extract from his dairy of May 8th 1846 reads "I ascended an elevated north eastern extremity of Mount Abundance, and from it beheld the finest country I have ever seen in a primeval state.  A Champaign region.  Spotted with wood, stretching as far as human vision, or even the telescope could reach."
