A tribute to Lieutenant John Lort Stokes and crew of the survey ship H. M. S. Beagle

The Beagle a Cherokee class brig-sloop of ten guns launched 11, May 1820, surveyed this coastline in Dec 1844

Th ship`s work continued for 50 years for the Admiralty unti 13, May 1870 whe she was sold.

Stokes joined the vessel in October 1825 as a Midshipman and commanded it between 16, August 1841 and 4 July 1848.
