Dear Monument Australia visitors, we are a self-funded, non-profit organisation, dedicated to recording monuments throughout Australia. Over time the costs of maintaining this website have risen substantially (in fact they are probably larger than those of many companies who exist for profit). In the past we have borne all the costs associated with maintaining the website but we are now having difficulties in paying the monthly expenses.
If Monument Australia is useful to you, please make a donation to keep this historical and educational resource available. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Socialist LeaguePrint Page

A monument commemorates the first Socialist League in Australia and its first secretary E.J.Brady. Brady set up a co-operative land settlement scheme for unemployed men in Mallacoota in 1933. The scheme ended in failure.
In 1909 journalist, balladist and secretary of Australia`s first Socialist League, E.J Brady, set up a writers and artists camp in Mallacoota. Brady`s guests at the camp included Henry Lawson, who stayed in 1910 while recovering from alcoholism, as well as Katherine Susannah Prichard and the playwright Louis Esson.
Brady remained in the area until his death in 1952.
