The monument erected by the working men over the grave of four men who were killed constructing the railway and road bridges across the Albert River at Yatala.

In February and March 1888 the lives of four men working on the construction of two bridges at Yatala were lost. A timber road bridge erected on wooden piles driven into the bed of the Albert River; and under construction -from November 1887, claimed one life. The first railway bridge to straddle the Albert River was a latticed iron structure set on caissons sunk into the river to bedrock. This was situated a few yards upstream from the road bridge, and claimed a further three lives.
