The plaque was erected in memory of Peter John Hawkins and Gregory Lee Eley. They were Warrimoo Bushfire brigade members who died fire fighting at White Cross in 1968.

In October 1968 a back-burn at White Cross blew back on a wind change and trapped three men, two of them members of the  Warrimoo Bush Fire Brigade, Greg Eley (on his first Brigade outing) and Peter Hawkins (an experienced previous deputy).
