The plaque on the former Methodist Church commemorates the pioneers who built the first Christian Church in Beechworth in 1854. The plaque was unveiled during centenary services in 1954.

Beechworth Methodist Church will hold centenary services on Easter Sunday. Preacher at both services will be the Rev. A. W. Pederick, Home Missions superintendent. First Methodist services were held at Beechworth in tents in 1852. The first church was built in 1854, and the present building opened in 1857. When gold was being mined in the district, 700 children attended the Sunday school. A memorial plaque to pioneers will be unveiled in the church on Easter Sunday.
