"Matey"Print Page
The bronze memorial was erected by public subscription to commemorate "Matey", a homeless dog who lived in Surfers Paradise for twelve years. The memorial was restored and relocated from original position on the corner of Cavill Avenue and the Gold Coast Highway.
"Matey" befriended both locals and visitors and was known for walking home revellers from Jim Cavill’s hotel during the 1940s and 1950s.
