The Pier of Remembrance is designed to give a sense of empathy for those that left Albany in 1914 to fight in World War One. The names of the ships comprising the first and second convoys are inscribed along the handrail.

On 1 November 1914, the first contingent of Australia’s expeditionary force, the Australian Imperial Force sailed from Albany, Western Australia.
