Wangoom Roll of Honour Print Page Print this page

The Honour Roll commemorates those from the district who served in World War One.

Wangoom was en-fete on Saturday evening, the 10th inst. Visitors from all parts of the district wended their way to the local State school building, the occasion being the unveiling of the Wangoom Honour Roll. The building which was tastefully decorated by the residents for the special occasion, was crowded, many of the people being unable to gain admission, but were enthusiastic onlookers from outside. The large windows were kept open, as the night was warm, and quite an assemblage occupied the outside positions. Great praise is due to the energetic secretary, Mr. F. W. Adams and his assistants, and all those who assisted in making the evening the great success that it was. The Honour Roll which is a most artistic piece of work, was hung in a most conspicuous position, and the fifteen or sixteen names inscribed thereon, were all boys who had gone from the district to fight for their King and country. Mr. R.Crothers presided, and carried out the duties of chairman in a most capable manner, and spoke in feeling terms of the great sacrifice made by the lads they were honouring that evening. He was proud indeed to see the Honour Roll hanging before them, and he trusted that it would at all times remind them of the patriotism of the Wangoom boys.
