Dear Monument Australia visitors, we are a self-funded, non-profit organisation, dedicated to recording monuments throughout Australia. Over time the costs of maintaining this website have risen substantially (in fact they are probably larger than those of many companies who exist for profit). In the past we have borne all the costs associated with maintaining the website but we are now having difficulties in paying the monthly expenses.
If Monument Australia is useful to you, please make a donation to keep this historical and educational resource available. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

New South Wales Police Force Roll of HonourPrint Page

The Honour Roll commemorates those who served in World War One. The Honour Roll is a white marble slab with names in five colums, mounted on a black marble plinth, in the main entrance foyer of the Sydney Police Centre.
The unveiling of the New South Wales police honour roll took place on Wednesday. The ceremony was performed outside police headquarters in Phillip-street, where about 200 police, including a posse of mounted men, were drawn up under the direction of the Inspector-General (Mr. Mitchell). Among those in attendance were Mr. Holman (Premier), Mr. Fuller {Chief Secretary), Mr. Garland (Solicitor-General), Mr. Fitzpatrick (State Treasurer), Mr. H. D. M'Intosh, M.L.C., Alderman R. D. Meagher, M.L.C.. and Chief officer Sparks and Deputy Chief-officer Jackson, of the N.S.W. Fire Brigade. Mr. Fuller said that the part played by the members of the police force in the war was an honourable one. So many of them enlisted for active service that it became necessary to prohibit further enlistments. Of the 220 men who had fought, many had won honours, while 46 had given their lives. Their memory would not be forgotten. He could vouchsafe, he added, that those of their comrades who returned would receive every consideration from the State Government.
