" DIGGER"

THIS DIGGER MEMORIAL WAS UNVEILED AT THE OXLEY MEMORIAL PARK IN 1920. THIS ORIGINAL SANDSTONE MEMORIAL STOOD AS A SYMBOL OF THE YOUTH OF AUSTRALIA WHO VOLUNTEERED THEIR SERVICES IN WORLD WAR I.

FOR THE FAMILIES OF THOSE WHOSE SONS FAILED TO RETURN, THIS REPRESENTED A SUBSTITUTE TOMBSTONE, A FOCUS OF SORROW AND PRIDE.

THIS DIGGER WAS RELIEVED OF DUTY IN 2006 AFTER 86 YEARS OF SERVICE.

A MODERN REPLICA NOW STANDS IN PLACE TO REMEMBER THE FALLEN AND THOSE WHO SERVED IN THE DISTRICT.

Lest We Forget

This Memorial remains in trust with Sherwood Indooroopilly Sub Branch which is acknowledged as the perpetual owners.
