The garden commemorates those who undertook National Service in the Australian Defence Forces from 1951 to 1972.

Between 1951 and 1972, young Australian men were called up in two separate schemes for compulsory training in the Navy, Army and Air Force.  Of them, 212 died on active service in Borneo and Vietnam. National Service was part of Australia’s defence preparedness for three decades.

We honour those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice in conflicts abroad, their service to our nation is of the highest order and our finest heritage.  

Burwood Council proudly set aside and erected this memorial garden in a lasting tribute and thanks to all Australian National Servicemen who served their country from 1951 to 1972.  

Dedicated and unveiled on 3 June, 2007.
