The new Tennant Creek War Memorial is an obelisk with four corner wings which commemorates Australian servicemen and women who have served in all wars, conflicts and peace keeping missions.

Note : The inscription of “Falklands” is very unusual on a monument in Australia, as Australia played no role in that conflict. According to Dr. Ross Mallett, from the University of New South Wales, “The British government requested that Australians who were on secondment to the British forces be allowed to remain with their ships and units. The then Prime Minister, Malcolm Fraser, refused. The Australian servicemen had to be sent home.”
