The monument commemorates the Merchant Navy which has been given world wide freedom of the city.

It features a sculpture in steel in memory of the Merchant Navy Forgotten Fleet of 1942 to 1945. There is also a plaque to aboriginal woman Waubadebar.

Bicheno has many mariners and ex-mariners and has a strong affinity with the sea.

1792 - 1832

Legendary Aboriginal heroine of the sea who died at sea and after whom the bay, beach, gulch and street are named.

She was taken from her tribe at Great Oyster Bay into servitude of grief and sorrow and lived in "The Old Fishery" for many  years.  Her grave is nearby.
