The hall commemorates those who served in World War One and World War Two. The hall was refurbished in 2008.
At a meeting held at the Thornton Cafe on Thursday, October 9th, for the purpose of discussing the disposal of monies held in Trust by the trustees of the Upper Thornton Hall, which was attended by 21 past and present residents of Thornton, who expressed their view as to how the money should be disposed of. Messrs L. Nicholas, S. Savage, R. Robb, J Girdwood, A. J. Girdwood and B. P. Coller were appointed to act with the Trustees (Messrs. L. Beever, S. Sawers and G V. Sawers) to finalise the disposal of money held in Trust. At a subsequent meeting held at Mr Beever's home by the appointed committee it was decided that £100 be donated to Alexandra Hospital to provide 1 maternity bed, 1 surgical posture bed, 1 colour safe heater to be used in conjunction with the maternity and surgical bed.
To bear the inscription -"Presented by the Upper Thornton Hall Trust fund. In memory of the old residents who erected this hall." £25 each to the Church of England and Presbyterian Churches at Thornton, and £25 each to the Roman and Methodist Churches at Alexandra. The balance after all accounts have been paid to be used to supply an Honor Roll and pay for materials required for the erection of the Memorial Hall at Thornton. The Trustees were thanked for their efforts and congratulated them on the way they had carried out their duties.

The Annual Meeting to elect the office-bearers of the Thornton Memorial Hall, was held at the Hall on Thursday 23rd July. The office-bearers elected were: President - Mr Jim Seymour. Vice-Presidents - Mr A. J. Nicholas, Mr R. B. Sparke. Secretary - Mr K. Miles. Treasurer - Mr A. J. Girdwood. The previous years committee was selected with the addition of Mr Bert Bishop in place of Mr J. Ballinger who has left the district. The Treasurer's report showed that to date the Hall had cost in the vicinity of £5,300 and that the Bank overdraft was £1,300. It was decided to have the Hall officially opened on September 11th and to ask Mr J. H. Smith, M.L.A to perform the ceremony. The Shire President and Councillors were also to be invited. A meeting of the ladies of Thornton and district is to be held at the Hall on Tuesday, August 4th at 2.30 p.m. to form a committee to organise the opening night arrangements.
