The Darlington War Memorial was erected in memory of the soldiers of Darlington and District who fought in the Great War . A plaque was added to the memorial to commemorate those from Darlington and District who fell in World War Two.

At a meeting of residents on the 21st February 1920, it was decided to erect a stone memorial for soldiers of the district. The memorial would be erected at the junction of Hall and Ware Streets and a committee was formed to raise subscriptions for the memorial.
