The hall was erected to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War One and World War Two.

The foundation stone was laid on ANZAC Day 1955 and was officially opened by Lieutenant General Sir Eric Woodward on the 8 December 1962. The hall was rededicated on 8 December 2012 by the Governor, Professor Marie Bashir.
