Photographs supplied by Nancy Alford / Graeme Saunders

The gates commemorate those who served in the South African (Boer) War.

The gates were erected by public subscription in memory of the patriotism of those who left the district to fight in the Boer War. The gates were opened by the Premier, Mr Irvine on the 23rd August 1903. Out of forty entries to an Australia wide design competition the local entry was judged the most appropriate. The gates were erected at a cost of £270 .
