Front Inscription

Erected by the residents of Mortlake & District to the memory of the soldiers of the Empire who fell in the South African War 1899-1902

Left Side Inscription

Corporal John B. Yates 2nd Kitcheners Fighting Scouts, killed in action at Peinaars River, June 2nd 1901, aged 23.

Right Side Inscription

Lance Corporal Duncan W. Small Aust Imp Regiment died at Mortlake 2nd Feb. 1901, from the result of an accident received on active service, aged 33.

Private Walter E. Clark, 2nd Victorian Contingent killed in action at Peinaars Poort. 5th July 1900, aged 32.
