The monument commemorates those from the district who served in the South African (Boer) War.

The marble tablet in connection with the returned soldiers from South Africa, from Mr. Mark Fitzwilliam of Wagga, has arrived, and landed at the local School of Arts, being much admired by those who have seen it. It will be erected in the course of a day or two, and the necessary arrangements for the ceremony of unveiling are in progress.
