A plaque commemorates Tom Maguire who was a boxing trainer and manager in Newcastle from 1919 to the mid 1950s.
His "Star Gymnasium" in Hamilton produced many champions including 37 Australian titleholders. A plaque was also erected in 1987 at the site of his gymnasium in Beaumont Street.
