The plaque commemorates pioneer Ernest George Beck Elphinstone Dalrymple.
Ernest Dalrymple became an officer in a Highland regiment and served in North America. On his return to Australia he was impressed by Allan Cunningham`s explorations and announced that he would sell his commission and form a party of Aberdonians to settle on the Darling Downs. He was one of the first settlers on the Downs but he became ill with consumption and died in Brisbane at the age of 24 in 1844.
