The marble tabelt was erected in memory of Second Lieutenant Howard Maitland Lyons who was killed in action in February 1917 in France during World War One. The tablet was originally unveiled in the Forest Hill Church.

 — Aged 26 Years
He Was A Loving Dutiful Son, And A True Christian.
          In A Far Country
He Sleeps In Sure And Certain Hope
Of A Resurrection Unto Eternal Life.

This Tablet Is Erected In His Honour
     As A Token Of Love
 By His Friends Of Forest Hill.
