The plaque at the gravesite commemorates Constable James Edmund Kay who died of typhoid while serving as a member of the Police Force on the 24th May 1896.
Kanowna. Constable Kay, one of the local police, died in the general hospital on Sunday and was buried on Tuesday. Kay arrived here on January 17. He was ill only a few days. The cause of death was typhoid. The deceased was highly respected and a large number of miners attended the funeral.
