The monument erected over the grave, commemorates Alderman Evan Jones who died in 1917. He was Alderman of the City of Sydney from 1882 to 1888 and 1900 to 1917.
Alderman Jones was a watchmaker and jeweller who was responsible for the making of the Lord Mayor of Sydney`s Sudan Campaign medals.
A handsome granite monument, subscribed to by city aldermen and the Master Jewellers' Association, has been erected over the grave of the late Alderman Evan Jones in the Waverley Cemetery.
