This park is named in honour of Mr John Laws and the service he has given to both community and sporting circles, and as alderman representing Division 8. Mr Laws was first elected alderman in 1970 and was re-elected in 1976, 1979 and 1982.
During his term in office Alderman Laws undertook significant works programmes within his Division and worked hard for the community he represented.
Mr Laws, a long time resident of the Coast, is a member of a well known family who have made their presence felt over the years in community affairs.
