The rotunda commemorates Walter Darker (1878 - 1950), a prominent Rotarian for his contribution to the community. The construction of the rotunda was a Rotary Club of Ipswich Project.
In 2017, the rotunda was refurbished and re-opened in a new location in the park.
Walter Darker, who was born at North Ipswich, was a prominent Rotarian. He was Chairman of Directors of several major Brisbane companies, President of the Associated Chamber of Commerce of Australia and Chairman of the Queensland Division of the Red Cross.
