The sundial was erected to commemorates Patience May Bourke`s forty-three years of service as the secretary of the Parents and Citizens Association. The sundial has been removed from the top of the memorial.
Patience Bourke settled in Stroud in 1922 where her six children went to school. She was a foundation member of the Stroud Parents and Citizen`s Association formed in 1927 and officially recognised in 1932. She was elected secretary in 1933 and still held that position at the time of her death on 19 August 1976, 43 years of unbroken service.
