The plaque commemorates Mrs W. A. Hanley for her work in establishing a school hostel in Glen Innes.
The Glen Innes School Hostel Committee met again last Tuesday evening and further:discussed the establishment of a hostel here. It was revealed that the movement for its establishment was making satisfactory progress. A prospective building that is in view, is to be inspected by the committee within the next few dnys. It was also decided that a public meeting be convened. Those present at the meeting were Mr. J. R. Windeyer (chairman), Mrs. W. A. Hanley (secretary), Messrs. C. G. Lauder, P. J. Barwick, A. Molesworth, W. A. Hanley and Mesdames Cotsell and Mackrell.

The Board of the Glen Innes Schools Hostel at a meeting last night advanced arrangements for the opening of the hostel for the accommodation of school pupils at the beginning of the final term. Mr. John R. Windeyer presided and there were also present Mrs. W. A. Hanley (hon. secretary), Mrs. P. J. Barwick, Messrs C. G. Lauder, Dr R. B. Lynch, P. J. Barwick, D Wright, M. R. Aggs, R. C. S. Douglas and I. C. Stevenson. Hostel rules were finally adopted, and Mrs Hanley reported that copies would be made avail able to pupils enrolling. Tenders were accepted for the provision of additional lavatory and bath and shower accommodation, and for the supply and installation of a gas waterheating system capable of ensuring an adiquate supply of hot water for kitchen and bathrooms' requirements. It was advised that the whole of the installations would be completed before the opening of the hostel next month. Mrs. Hanley reported that the Younger Set proposed to run a function to assist the hostel, and that Hostel Button Day would be held on Friday, August 24.
