The headstone at the grave commemorates George Price who died in 1922 at the age of 65. The headstone was erected by the Newcastle Coaltrimmers Federal Union.
The funeral from the Newcastle Hospital of Mr. G. Price, an old identity of Carrington, who died in the hospital at an early hour on Sunday morning, took place yesterday afternoon. The deceased, who was one of the oldest members of the Coaltrimmers' Union, being practically a member since its inauguration in the old Temperance Hall, Dennison-street, in 1883. He was a native of County Wicklow, Ireland, having been born in Arklow, where his mother, who is over 90 years of ago, still lives. The funeral was attended by a large number of his fellow workmen and friends. The interment was in the Church of England portion of Sandgate cemetery.

Note: Coal trimmers were the waterside workers who loaded coal as cargo and into bunkers on steam ships. The union became the Newcastle Coal Trimmers Branch of the Waterside Workers' Federation in 1921.
