Simon GussPrint Page
The plaque commemorates Simon Joseph Guss who was President of the New South Wales Jewish War Memorial from 1938 to 1946 , and President of the Jewish Returned Soldiers` Assocation from 1925 to 1946.
In order that the life-long service of the late Simon Joseph Guss be commemorated in a manner that will best reflect his character, especially his devotion to the interest of ex-soldiers and his avoidance of display, the War Memorial Council recently decided that his memorial should take the form of a simple bronze plaque at the entrance to the Maccabean (Main) Hall, together, with an endowment in his name for the War Veterans Home. Whilst this is not a public appeal in the ordinary sense of the term, it is felt that many friends of the late Mr. Guss, and admirers of his work, will want to be associated with the movement. It is announced that, by courtesy of the War Veterans, individual receipts will eventually be issued by that organisation, so that about four-fifths of contributions will be rebatable for income-tax purposes.
