Planting of 150 TreesPrint Page
The plaque commemorates the planting of 150 trees in August 1979 by school children who were representing 150 families from the District. The planting was undertaken in the 150th anniversary year of the State of Western Australia.
WAY 79 was the official 1979 sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) celebration of the European colonisation of Western Australia. When Charles Court became premier in 1974 the state government took over the planning for the 150th anniversary celebrations. In 1975 the WAY 79 concept was officially launched by the Premier. Many events and celebrations to commemorate the anniversary took place throughout Western Australia during 1979.
