The fountain was presented by the South Australian Association of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire to commemorate the bicentenary of the European settlement of Australia.
The plaque associated with the fountain was relocated to the Pathway of Honour in December 2003 on the 25th anniversary of the formation of the Association.
