The monument commemorates the Boomanoomana South School which was closed in 1952.
It is a rough-formed grey granite monolith approximately 1.5 metres high, set in concrete. It has two attached plaques, one listing details of teachers and period of the school's existence, the other details those involved in the erection of the monument

The Boomanoomana South Public School Commemorative Commitee was formed on 29th November 2004, at a meeting held at the Barooga Sports Club.
Geoff Backhouse was elected Chairperson
Vaness Danaher was elected Secretary
Committee Members : Jean Guthrie, Geoff Brentnall, Gerry O`Dwyer, Leo Bond, Noel Hicks, Colin Watson, Colin Cornish, Tom Danaher, David Stillard and John Stillard.
