Lambton Colliery Coal Hopper
This coal hopper was officially opened on the 12th September 2015 on the occasion of the school`s 150th anniversary.
Mrs Kerrie Beavan, ex-student and L. P. S. teacher, worked tirelessly for three years to secure the hopper for the school and the Lambton community to commemorate the link between the mining community and Lambton Public School.
In 1864 the managers of the Lambton Colliery offered land so a public school could be built to service the needs of the growing suburb. The colliery also contributed money toward the construction of the first classroom building on the site. Lambton Colliery employed many men and boys of the Lambton community during its operation.
In 1865 the school opened and has continued to educate Lambton children on this site since.
Lambton Colliery closed in the late 1930s and was situate where Morehead Street meets Durham Rd.
