The tree was planted to commemorate 50 years of service in Australia by the Quota International. The tree was originally planted in 1983 but was replaced by a new tree in 2007.
Quota, as an organisation, first began in Australia in 1933, when the Club received its charter from the Governor of NSW. Australia officially became the third country to join Quota Club International, and the Quota Club of Sydney became the first women's classified service club in Australia.
