Eudlo District Honour BoardPrint Page
The wooden honour roll commemorates those from the District who served in World War Two.
The board was made by Mr H. T. Blanch, a pioneer of the Highlands district of Eudlo from red cedar cut on his property. His daughter, Sister Myra Blanch, is named on the board as she served in World War Two and was well-known in the 1940s and 1950s as the "Nightingale of the Air" - the first nurse in the Flying Doctor service.
(Information supplied by Keith Boyle)
The Eudlo District Honour Board was unveiled by Mr. G. F. R. Nicklin MLA on the 16th October 1946 during a "welcome home " function for 34 returned personnel including three members of the Women's Services. When the floodlit honour board was unveiled it contained 38 names.
The returning personnel were guests of the Eudlo Welfare Committee and each received a framed certificate suitably inscribed with a photograph inset and a fountain pen. To the women members of the service a ladies handbag and a testimonial were given.
