The honour roll commemorates those from the District who served in World War Two.
On Friday night Mr. A. O. Enticknap, Member for Murrumbidgee. unveiled an Honor Roll at the Yanco Hall. The roll contained many names of district men and women who had served in the forces. The first part of the evening was concert programme. The overture was played by Mrs. Sherwood Adams, followed by a song by Mr. John Howie, a recitation by Judith Newman, a violin solo by Mrs. Merchant, songs by Mr. Tony Quinlivan, Miss Dulcie Day, and Mr. Woods' a recitation by Mrs. L. B. Dart, a song by Mr. Woods, and a recitation by Miss Marion Anderson. At the conclusion of the concert on behalf of the members of the W.V.S. Mr. Thompson thanked the public of Yanco for their support of the war effort.
He mentioned that Mrs. L. Alexander had knitted 220 pairs of socks and Mrs. Smith 205 pairs. He said funds were raised by the W.V.S. for the Red Cross, P.O.W, funds, Patriotic funds, mobile canteen, Leeton Rest Room, and Leeton Hospital totalling £380; street collections for the Red Cross totalled £48/15/9; parcels were despatched for four years to local service personnel at a cost of £240. The grand total raised was £713. Mr. Enticknap then unvieled the Honor Roll, and addresses were also given by Cr. R. A. Struck (Shire President) and Mr. Green (Manager of the Welfare Farm).
