HMAS HOBART
Australian Light Cruiser WWII
The second of 3 RN cruisers to join the RAN, Hobart was commissioned on 28 September 1938.
Her original complement of 650 swelled to over 900 by war`s end. On July 1943, whilst operating in the Coral Sea, thirteen officers and ratings were lost after the ship was extensively damaged when she was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine at long range.

Joined other Commonwealth warships for the formal Japanese surrender ceremony on 2 September 1945. Remained in service until placed on the Disposal List. The ship was sold in February 1962 for breaking up in Japan and sailed from Sydney under tow on 3 March 1962 for demolition.
