2ND A.I.F.
THE 3RD AUST. DIVISION H.Q. WAS STATIONED IN THE ATHERTON TABLELANDS AREA FOLLOWING ITS RETURN FROM THE SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN TO DRIVE THE JAPANESE FROM WAU TO SALAMAUA (PNG) IN 1943.
FOLLOWING REST, REINFORCEMENT AND RE-EQUIPPING IN THE AREA, THE DIVISION WENT BACK TO BULOLO (PNG) FOR ACCLIMATISATION BEFORE MOVING TO BOUGAINVILLE (1944) WHERE IT WAS STATIONED UNTIL EARLY 1946.
