Australia Remembers
1945 - 1995
In honour of the loyal brave and devoted service of about 70 aboriginal men and women from the Kimberleys, the Northern Territory and the Gulf in Queensland who were enrolled in 1942 by Major W.E.H. Stanner, commanding officer of the 2/1st North Australia Observer Unit AIF, and who acted as patrol guides, trackers, ships crew and on other duties, performing a key role for the Nackeroos until the danger to North Australia ended in 1945.
