Old Modernians War Memorial SeatPrint Page
The seat commemorates those from the school who died in service or were killed in action in World War Two.
In a brief and impressive ceremony at Perth Modern School yesterday afternoon, the memorial to the Old Modernians who fell in World War II was unveiled. It consists of a bench in granite on the north side of the original war memorial. The Minister for Education (Mr. Watts), who officiated at the unveiling, said the Perth Modern School had by its tradition established a favourable impression in both wars.
In World War II the ex-students who served had numbered several thousands, and it had been impossible to ascertain all the names of those who had paid the supreme sacrifice. The memorial had been erected to honour the memory of all ex Modernians who had fallen in the war of 1939-1945. The Archbishop of Perth (the Most Rev. R. W. H. Moline) read the lesson and offered the prayer of dedication, after which five members of the R.S.L. Memorial Band sounded the Last Post.
