The community centre commemorates those who died in service or were killed in action during World War Two. The Memorial Bowling Greens were opened on the 27th October 1954.
At a meeting of the Committee of Management of the Saddleworth War Memorial Community Centre, and representatives of the Bowling and Tennis Clubs, it was decided to Officially Open the Memorial Bowling Greens on Wednesday, 27th October at 8 p.m. The meeting was held in the Room and Mr. W. T. Vogt the Community Centre President was in the chair. Plans and estimates of cost for the new Club house were submitted by the Secretary, Mr. A. E. Bannear and a long discussion followed. It was decided to use all Mount Gambier Stone in the construction of the walls. After discussing the cost of tiles for the roof, ft was decided to seek a new estimate using iron for the roof.
Tenders are also to be called for the construction of the buiding. Arrangements were made to opening the Memorial Greens and it was decided to ask Mr. W. K Oliver of Hamley Bridge to declare them opened and Rev. R. J. Nixon and Mr. J. W. Valladares, the President of the R.S.L. Sub-branch to officiate at the Dedication Service. The First Kitty will be rolled by Mr. L. G. Black and Mr. W. H. Baldwin will bowl the first bowl. Supper will be served in the Institute for the official visitors. Invitations are to be sent out by the Centre in co-operation with the Bowling Club.
