Trees of Tribute Print Page
The monument, unveiled in 2001 in front of the RSL, commemorates the 40 Aleppo pines which were planted by school students in 1940 along High Street to commemorate those who had enlisted in World War Two.
The Attorney-General's Department is to be requested to give consideration to the matter of making Kimba Court a court of full jurisdiction. A report from the tree planting committee was adopted, and, in accordance with same, an avenue of trees is to be planted in High street, to be known as "Trees of Tribute," along the lines suggested in a letter received from the National Tree Planting Council. One tree is to be dedicated to each man enlisting for overseas service with the Navy, Army or Air Force, and suitable permanent plaques are to be affixed to the trees. Other trees are to be planted in the town and this year's planting will bring the number of trees planted in the streets of the township and the playground to more than 500.
