St James` Memorial Chalice Print Page
The chalice was donated by prisoner of war Ernest (Ernie) Sargeant to commemorate the lives Queensland POWs of the 2nd / 10th Field Regiment who were captured at the fall of Singapore duringWorld War Two. Some of them died in captivity and never returned to their families in The Redlands.
The Queensland Government provided funds through the Spirit of Service Small Grants Program, for the restoration of the silver-plated chalice which is used weekly to celebrate the Eucharist in St James’ Church and which was donated in memory of POW’s 1939 – 1946.
