Victory in the Pacific (VPDay)

In memory of all who served Australia in World War II

This plaque was erected by the Wanneroo / Joondalup RSL Sub Branch with funding assistance from the Commonwealth Government on the 22nd Day of August 2005 to commemorate VP Day, 15th August 1945.

On the 15th August 1945 Japan announced it would surrender to Allied Forces and after 1364 days, 5 hours and 14 minutes World War II ended at 0904 hours on September 2nd 1945 with the signing of the "Instrument of Surrender" 

The Instrument of Surrender was signed on board the battleship USS Missouri, anchored in Tokyo Bay
The ceremony was conducted by General of the US Army Douglas MacArthur Supreme Commander.

Yoshijiro Umezu      By command and in behalf of the Japanese Imperial General Headquarters.
