Trees of TributePrint Page
Five Norfolk Pines were planted by the Council in 1940 along the foreshore at the end of Hanson Street as a tribute to the military personnel serving in North Africa and elsewhere.
Approval of the plan for the planting of trees of tribute was expressed today by the State secretary of the Returned Sailors and Soldiers' Imperial League of Australia (Mr. Dowling). "This plan should commend itself to the league's sub-branches throughout the State, and I feel sure that they will co-operate whole-heartedly," he said. "The sub-branches displayed great interest in the tree planting campaign two years ago." Mr. Dowling added that he regarded the scheme as a fitting way to commemorate men who enlisted for service overseas.
